The Passing Away of Sr. Ann Paxton El Moslimany

As-salamu Alaikoum / Peace be upon you,

Sr. Ann Paxton El-Moslimany passed away on the morning of Jan 25th. Inna lillahi Inna ilahihi Rajiun. Sr. Ann was a pioneer in the Seattle Muslim Community and a cornerstone in the establishment of the early Muslim community in Seattle in the 60s. For 50 years she gave her heart and her soul to building the next generation of Muslims. She founded the Islamic School of Seattle in the early 80’s to put into reality her vision of a truly modern Islamic education, infused with elements of Montessori learning and a holistic vision (which she documented in her book, Teaching Children).   She was very kind and warm person. She gave her life to educating immigrant children from various backgrounds and never forgot them. The Islamic School of Seattle left a lasting legacy in our community with many former students, teachers and educators now helping build the next generation of Muslims. We were truly blessed to have her as part of our community along with her late husband Dr. Mohamed.   May Allah bless Sr. Ann, reward her the very best for all she have done for her family and this community. May He shower her with His mercy and forgiveness and grant her the very highest ranks in paradise and grant your family strength and patience.

Wa Salam,
