Interfaith and Outreach Committee (IOC)

Who We Are

MAPS-IOC brings together people from all faiths and backgrounds to create bonds of friendship through hospitality, social events, cultural activities, and education about MAPS, Islam, and Muslims. Since its inception in 2007, MAPS-IOC has worked to build relationships and remove misconceptions.  This is especially important at a time when the majority of our fellow Americans do not personally know a Muslim and do not know much about Islam.

What We Do

Mosque Tours

We host guests who want to visit a mosque, meet Muslims and get an insider view of an Islamic center. Tours can be scheduled on any weekday. On Fridays guests get to observe the Friday sermon (khutbah) and the congregational prayer. The tour includes a presentation about Islam and a guided tour of the facility. Guests can include a meal to their tour. MAPS has visitors nearly every week with a total of about 800 guests in over 30 visits.

Islamic Presentations

We get several requests for speakers by many schools, churches and other institutions. We have had topics as general as an introduction to Islam/Muslims, and as specific as explaining the specific rituals of prayer and having them participate in it! We can tailor our presentations based on request and need.

Annual Interfaith Iftar

This annual event during the month of Ramadan is the largest interfaith gathering hosted at MAPS. We have sold out this event the past couple years, with over 400 participants joining elected officials, faith and community leaders, and families and friends as we break bread together to end the fast at sunset and celebrate Ramadan.
