Thanks for Making MCOC Arts & Culture Festival Celebrating Diversity a Great Success

Asalaam alaikum (peace be upon you)

Dear MAPS community and families,

The pandemic has taught us how important it is to get together as a community and be united as a real one community. Let’s heal the divides in our community! Together We Heal!

Thanks for coming and sharing beautiful, heartwarming moments with us at the MAPS MCOC Arts & Culture Festival on October 30, 2021.

MAPS- MCOC is one of the many programs dedicated to serving the cause of diversity and inclusion from a cultural-artistic perspective. MAPS MCOC is one of the oldest initiatives at the Muslim Association of Puget Sound, founded by Professor Rania Hussein in 2012. This initiative is mainly focused on embracing Muslims’ talents and highlighting the artistic, creative side of Muslims in an attempt to combat Islamophobia, especially in communities where Muslims are seen and portrayed negatively. It’s important to mingle with different cultures and build a foundation of love and trust via art, culture, and sharing our heritage, history, and stories.

Below are some moments from MAPS MCOC Arts & Culture Festival 2021 at the Muslim Association of Puget Sound. The event mainly focused on highlighting 21 local small business owners, eight local artists, and local talents in our community. The event hosted a cultural booth where 14 countries from all around the world were represented.

The event included:
  • FREE animal twisted balloons
  • FREE henna art
  • FREE kids’ painting activities
  • A raffle
Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers and collaborators who stood for hours welcoming guests, helping with setup and cleaning, and spreading the word. We can’t thank you enough!

It was a blast! Thanks to all performers, contributors, and elders from our community who made this event possible. We would love to thank all our sponsors: 4 CultureMAPS-SBRN “MAPS-BIZ,” Saturna, and Amana Trusted Fund.
Thanks To Software Eng. Safaa Alshorbagy for selling delicacies to raise funds for the event.

Thanks to local artist Sarra Elgammal for volunteering and making FREE animal twisted balloons for all the kids in the event.
