As’salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you) Dear MAPS Community:
I pray this message reaches you in the best of health, in the safety of family and in the firmest of faith. Over the weekend, by the grace of Allah SWT (God Almighty), we had our annual fundraiser. In the past thirteen years, this fundraiser event has been a hallmark event for our community to gather in the beautifully decorated main hall at MAPS, celebrate our accomplishments, lay out our plan for the coming year and to solicit your support. This year, as with everything else, we had to host the event online. While we missed out on our in-person connection, I’m grateful that the change did not dampen the community’s resolve to support our masjid or diminish the community’s generosity even at a time of anxiety and uncertainty. MAPS can always count on its community and this weekend was no different. For this, I want to sincerely express my deepest appreciation to all of you who donated and those who pledged to support our effort.
If you could not join the fundraiser, please do not miss the rewards of the event and the opportunity to support our work in this blessed month of Ramadan. Please use one of the methods below to donate to help sustain your masjid. We still have a long way to go to meet our fundraising goals for the year. Your contribution will ensure that MAPS and all of our various programs and services remain operational and active throughout the rest of the year, despite the pandemic. Please don’t forget corporate matching.

The virtual fundraising event had beautiful messages of support from Ustada Ieasha Prime, Shaykh Yasir Birjas, Shaykh Yassir Fazaga, and Imam Mohamed Abdul-Azeez. While they joined us from across the country, they all had deep admiration for our masjid and our work in the Greater Seattle area. Governor Inslee also recorded a special message of thanks for us and wished the Muslim community of Washington a Ramadan Mubarak. Shaykh Abdulraouf Alkhawaldeh joined us this year again to request your support. Our very own imams, Imam Joban and Imam Adam, supplicated and drove the event. To them all, to the MAPS staff, to the board members and to the countless volunteers who put the event together, I am very grateful. May Allah reward you all many times over.
In my own remarks, I explained how I gauge MAPS’ progress from 3 different lenses:
- Are we addressing your needs, making MAPS the best place for you and your children to practice our faith?
- Are we doing our part to serve the community where we live? To do otherwise would not be following our faith tradition.
- Are we elevating the profile of Muslims so we are part of the fabric of American society – not just in religious circles, but having a seat at the table on issues of import, especially when decisions that affect us are made?
You can watch the video of my remarks here and read the text here.
“Building institution is hard. But sustaining is even harder.” With your prayers and generosity, I know that MAPS will thrive and grow for the next 100 years in the hands of our children and grandchildren (by the grace of Allah swt). I am counting on all of us to do our part today and in these remaining days of Ramadan to make this vision a reality.
Thank you again.
Jazak-um-ullah Khairan (may you be rewarded).
Hyder Ali
MAPS President
