Increased Security at MAPS

As’salaam alaikum (peace be upon you):

You may have heard about the violent threat made by an individual against the mosque in Bellevue. We wanted to write to update and reassure the community that we have been actively engaging in conversations with local law enforcement about the threat and taking appropriate action. Specifically, we at MAPS are putting extra security measures in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the community, including private armed security guards and patrols by Redmond Police during Eid and Jummah (Friday) prayers. We are also asking the community to be vigilant and notify MAPS staff and the board or call 911 if you see anything unusual/suspicious or encounter any threat.

In addition to communications with the Redmond Police, Bellevue Police, and King County Sheriff’s Office, the local FBI has also reached out to us offering assistance if needed. The Bellevue Police further shared last night that the man who made the threat has been identified. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me. Otherwise, we just pray to Allah SWT (God Almighty) that our houses of worship and the community are kept safe, and that these important days of Dul Hijjah (month of Hajj) are a blessed and enjoyable time for all of us! Ameen.
