Omicron COVID Guidance at MAPS
Given the rapid increase in COVID cases due to Omicron, we are taking proactive measures to avoid the spread of COVID at MAPS. These measures are effective starting January 3, 2022.
- We will require proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test to enter MAPS for anyone over 12 years old. This is a requirement for Friday Jummah prayer, daily prayer, and any organized religious and social programs at MAPS. Please have your vaccination proof or negative test ready for our staff to verify at the entrance. Attendees must be fully vaccinated i.e., must have taken two doses of Moderna / Pfizer vaccines or one dose of J&J at least 2 weeks ago. All types of proof mentioned on this website are acceptable for verification. COVID test must be taken within the last 72 hours to be acceptable.
- Private events (rentals) will also need to follow the vaccination and negative COVID test requirements.
- The requirements are currently for ages 12 and up only. Since the vaccination rate in the 5-12 age group is still low, we will reevaluate the vaccination requirement for this age group in February.
- We encourage high-risk individuals (65 years+ or having underlying medical conditions) to avoid congregational prayers. Per CDC data, this group is likely to get the severe illness from COVID. We broadcast Friday khutbahs and selected programs on MAPS Facebook and Youtube channels.
- We strongly encourage everyone to get fully vaccinated and the booster dose. We anticipate the definition of fully vaccinated to include the booster dose in the near future.
- MAPS is organizing a booster drive on January 21st and we are working on adding more dates to the schedule. The FEMA King County Mobile Community Vaccination Center is also offering free doses of all vaccines, including booster shots, for 5+ years old all month. More info here.
- Please avoid shaking hands, hugging, and physical contact after prayers, even if you’ve been fully vaccinated.
These guidelines do not apply to MAPS educational programs. Shaykh Adam Jamal, our Education Director, will send changes to guidance for educational programs.
Thank you, and may you all be safe, protected, blessed, and rewarded. Ameen.
