In an effort to build trust and understanding, Mohammad Islam, MAPS Executive Director, invited Chief Darrell Lowe, Captain Tim Gately and a number of police officers to meet and greet, to discuss safety and security of MAPS members, and to enjoy Mediterranean food.

The Chief discussed how the police department is committed to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone at MAPS, particularly during Ramadan, an important time of year for Muslims. It was a productive and meaningful conversation that is sure to have lasting implications for our masjid.

Mohammad Islam expressed his appreciation for the proactive approach the Redmond police department has taken in helping to protect the Muslim community during Ramadan. “We wanted to ensure that our local police are aware of the unique challenges and dangers that may arise during this special time of year,” Islam said. “By engaging with our police department in an open dialogue, we can create an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding.”

During the visit on Tuesday, February 14th, Lowe outlined some of the measures taken by the department in order to ensure the safety of Muslims during the holy month. “Our goal is to foster a safe and secure environment for everyone in Redmond, and that includes our Muslim neighbors,” Lowe said.

The visit was an opportunity for MAPS and Redmond Police to further their understanding of each other, and to build stronger relationships between law enforcement and the local Muslim community. Imam Mohamad Joban, Nickhath Sheriff, Hend Alhinnawi, and Abduselam Ibrahim joined the conversation to meet and greet the officers while sharing their appreciations and concerns.

The exchange was a positive step forward in establishing a safe, secure and meaningful relationship between Redmond Police Department and MAPS.
