MAPS Youth
Who We Are
MAPS Youth is a dynamic program that seeks to connect young Muslims (ages 13-18) to the Masjid, cultivate appropriate Islamic values, build pride in their identity, instill confidence, celebrate cultural differences, develop leadership skills, and help these youth become the best versions of themselves. The program offers an immersive and relevant experience of faith in practice through the pursuit of religious knowledge, spiritual experiences, social activities and fun outings, volunteering and community service, and organizing large-scale events. Nearly 200 teenagers participate in MAPS Youth, with over 1,000 youth from all over the Greater Seattle area attending the MAPS Youth events.
What We Do
Develop a Confident Religious Identity
In the past year, we continued our monthly halaqas and discussions on relevant topics for the youth. The topics included gender interactions, navigating between liberalism and conservatism, Ramadan fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) intensive, Instagram, reviewing stories of the prophets, story of Ibrahim/Abraham (peace be upon him), addressing atheism, addressing domestic violence, bullying, and a workshop on how to be a confident Muslim.
We also established a bi-weekly Islamic studies course with Sheikh Adam Jamal, along with an intensive on Seerah (Prophet’s biography) for Fall Quarter and the male and female Companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for Winter Quarter.

Develop a Service Oriented Young Adult
Given the strong emphasis on service in Islam, this is a core value we seek to instill within our youth. For this reason, we organized quarterly “Fighting Hunger Campaigns” (including in Ramadan) to make sandwiches and meals and deliver them to food banks and Tent Cities. The youth were able to provide over $600 worth of food in one year alone.
Apart from our “Fighting Hunger Campaigns,” the youth helped organize the “Go Green” initiative for Ramadan to encourage recycling and composting, helped King5 Hometeam Harvest raise money for local food banks, conducted a full Masjid cleanup, and worked with Uplift Dawah to do a Prophetic Roses event in Pike Place Market to introduce Islam to others (where 3 people even decided to become Muslim!).

Develop a Relevant Islamic Experience
Every quarter, we strive to hold at least one large scale event. These have included a Fast-a-ton (with the youth inviting their non-Muslim friends to join them in fasting for a day), Career Night (over 200 youth attending to learn about different career options), College Night (learning how to apply to college, with one-on-one training for high school seniors), and Say No to Racism (appreciating diversity in the community and working to help end racism)!
We also hold an annual MAPS Youth Retreat, where we take over 50 youth for a three day knowledge intensive to North Cascades Institute. We have been fortunate to have speakers likeSheikh Mohamad Joban, Sheikh Adam Jamal, Sister Aneelah Afzali, Sheikh Qasim Hatem, Ustadha Amina Coleman, Sheikh Adeyinka Mendes, and Sister Huma Din provide incredible workshops! The youth were also able to bonds over activities, including sports, canoeing, halal smores, and jinn stories!
