MAPS Islamic Studies Scholarship

Assalamu’alaykum,

The scholarship is now closed and applicants journeys are funded.

We hope to renew the scholarship every 2 years with approval from MAPS Board of Directors. In order to be a competitive applicant in 2025, please do the following:
1. Complete the MAPS Quranic Arabic course or equivalent, as we give priority to those who can skip the Arabic program at Qalam and have shown that they utilize local resources first
2. Be involved at any MAPS locations, in particular in educational activities (such as youth groups, Sunday school, etc)

Jazakumullahu khairan

—–
MAPS is proud to announce the 2023 MAPS Islamic Studies Scholarship!

This scholarship will be awarded to up to four successful candidates to attend the Qalam Seminary in Dallas, Texas beginning Fall 2023. Our mission is to invest in learning for the betterment and success of our community and next generations.

What does it cover?

This scholarship will cover tuition costs and part of the living costs for the Seminary Year. The Seminary Year is designed to provide students with a strong foundation and comprehensive understanding of the major Islamic sciences including Seerah, Fiqh, Aqidah amongst others. Applicants must know Arabic in order to gain admission to the Seminary Year.

Why Qalam?

There are many great opportunities and institutions that offer this kind of learning. We chose Qalam Seminary for two reasons:
  1. The 1-year Seminary Program which has one entry and exit point is perfect for our needs
  2. Their focus on the condition of Muslims in America and the balance between knowledge, activism, application and tarbiyah.

Community Objectives
  • Increase # of young people who can be role models for our community
  • Identify and invest in young people who are able to unify deen and dunya
  • Invest in future activists, thought leaders, teachers in our community

The Application Process

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have graduated from high school. The scholarship is awarded with the condition that applicants must successfully gain admission to the Qalam Seminary and be able to travel to Dallas, Texas for one year to complete their chosen course of study.

For 2023, we are giving preference to candidates who have learned Arabic and can test into the Seminary Year (2nd year). This is in order to encourage community members to first avail resources in our own community. MAPS has a 1-year Arabic program which can prepare you for success in this process.

As part of the application, applicants will be required to share their experience working with the Seattle Muslim community, what they hope to achieve by attending the seminary and a plan of action in how they will give back to our community upon return.
