MAPS Expansion
Our Mission
Establish an active Masjid, adhering to Islamic principles, with a welcoming environment, high quality services, a platform for community engagement and ideas to flourish, that brings benefits to Muslims and the wider community.
About the Project
MAPS’ acquisition of the 146K sqft VIBE campus on 7.6 acres of prime land on the Bellevue-Redmond border fits squarely within its 30-year vision for the local area Muslim community. By the grace of Almighty Allah, our organization has made tremendous progress since its inception in 2006. We started as a small entity serving the immediate religious needs of a few Muslim families. Since those early days though, we had set our vision to much loftier goals: improve the life of our community members and the society we live in by following the teachings of our noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). As such we have diligently worked these past 2 decades to build an institution that today spends over a million dollars annually in charity, teaches business practices to entrepreneurs, trains scores in technology and IT, repairs nature parks and trails, hosts free health and legal clinics, advocates for equal rights to all, encourages artistic expressions, celebrates cultural diversity, all the while serving the cradle-to-grave spiritual needs of 7000 Muslim families in the Pacific Northwest. MAPS is now spread over 3 campuses and serves as a springboard launching individuals and other organizations who are serving our society in a variety of ways.
However, while we have made tremendous progress in the past 2 decades, we still have much work to do. As a community, American Muslims are still weak. We all felt this in the past year as we have been powerless in preventing the genocide that is taking place in Gaza. We need to continue building our community in a way that leverages all the work we have done to-date and takes it to the next level. A larger facility and better infrastructure are the first key component to enable us to achieve that. The Vibe campus fits within this broader vision that is still in the making.
Our New Home
The VIBE campus comprises of 3 Class A buildings located on 148th Avenue NE, opposite to Pro-Club. The buildings are optimally located between Bellevue and Redmond, near large residential complexes, in the tech corridor, at a walking distance from Microsoft and the Light Rail metro station. At 146K sq ft, it would be 3 times the size of our current facility. MAPS has negotiated an arrangement with Medina Academy (who runs many of its classes in our Redmond center today) to acquire one of the three buildings as the future site for its middle and high schools. The campus then will be a full-service Islamic center with full-time schools, a mosque, and plenty of spaces for the various services we offer and use by our community.

Securing the VIBE Campus
Last year, after receiving approval from the General Assembly, we committed to purchasing the VIBE campus. Since then, we have negotiated the purchase price, secured Islamic finances with a national bank, and entered into non-binding contractual agreements with the Seller. We plan to pay a down payment, lift the purchasing contingency, and secure the facility in February. Close and ownership transfer will happen in April of 2025. Per our current plan, MAPS will convert Building C into its main mosque and spiritual center. MAPS will own Building B and intends to lease available spaces to the tech industry and for use by the community for small businesses, entrepreneur/start-up offices, co-working spaces, medical/legal clinics, social activities, etc.

Transition Timeline
It is important to note that all the buildings have tenants today. The lease of the tenants in Building A will expire in July 2025. The lease on Building C runs through July 2027. So, we will only start the work to convert Building C into a mosque in the middle of 2027. We expect this work to take at least 1.5 years. So, the soonest that we can move our religious functions from Redmond to the VIBE campus would be in early 2028. Microsoft is currently leasing one floor of Building B until 2027. As noted above, MAPS intends to use the second floor of that building for its services, such as hosting a more permanent health clinic, or lease it to our community for their various needs. In 2027, MAPS may renew the Microsoft lease for half of the building. The acquisition of the VIBE campus is the largest project undertaken by our community to-date. We first ask Allah SWT to guide us in this process, enable us to make the right decisions, and make us successful. We ask all of you in the community to assist us in fulfilling the MAPS vision, support us in your dua’s, and contribute to the fundraising to make this project a reality Insha-Allah.
