Islam’s Contribution to Modern Civilization

Wisconsin’s prolific, erudite religious scholar Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah, was once a teenager full of questions about his family’s Muslim faith. Why did all the scientists in his premedical textbooks have Western names? Why were Western countries advancing technologically and economically while Muslim countries seemed stuck in the past? What has Islam offered the world? Should I continue to be a Muslim?
Today Dr. Shah is a leading influence on Islamic thought in the West. He just completed three hefty books – a total of 1,368 pages, weighing 4.4 lbs each – about specific aspects of Islam’s impact on Western thought.
Dr. Shah will be at MAPS this Friday to tell us untold stories of Islam and English Enlightenment, which is also the title of his new book. Read more here.
Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah’s appearance at MAPS Redmond
The lecture will focus on the ground breaking message of Islam and Muslims foundational contributions to Scientific Revolution, American Revolution and Republic through Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin and modern freedom movements such as human rights, religious freedom, and democracy. Dr. Zulfiqar will show through pictures, paintings and slides how Islam and Muslim have shaped the European art, architecture, and political institutions. Unfortunately, Islam is not credited for all of this. This lecture will have Quranic and Prophetic messages to encourage the community to become confident torch bearers of Islam in America.
