Pakistan Floods Relief Drive
As-Salaam Alaikum,
Our brothers and sisters in Pakistan need your help.
Since mid-June of last year, heavy flooding in Pakistan has affected at least 33 million people and killed more than 1,693 so far. These floods have displaced over 7.9 million people, 598,000 of which are living in relief camps. Flood damages are expected to total more than $30 billion. However, the worst of this disaster is yet to come. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports “significant public health threats,” including malaria, dengue, and other waterborne illnesses, due to the large amounts of still water that the Pakistani population is currently living in.
To help our brothers and sisters in Pakistan, we organized a clothing drive last November. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we collected over 3,000 bags of donations, which provided support to over 30,000 people in Pakistan.
We will be continuing this effort on the weekend of January 21st and 22nd. On both of these days, we will be collecting donations from 12 PM to 6 PM. This time, we will be accepting common household items along with clothing donations (such as pots/pans, backpacks, pens/pencils). For a full list of accepted items, please visit here. Please remember that contributing $1 per pound of donations will help greatly in covering shipping costs. We will be accepting cash in-person, but you may also donate online here.
Finally, we are also looking for volunteers to assist with the loading and collection of the donations. If you are available and willing, please fill out the volunteer form here.
