Announcing the appointment of MAPS Executive Director Mohammad Islam!

As’salaam Alaikum (peace be upon you):

MAPS continues to see tremendous growth, thanks to the unwavering support of the community and the growing population of Muslims in our region. To sustain our growth journey, we need a strong organizational structure and appropriate leadership in place. To that end, MAPS has hired its first organizational-wide full-time Executive Director, to take MAPS to the next level in our evolution as an impactful organization for the Muslim and non-Muslim community alike. Following a rigorous nationwide search to find a qualified person to lead in this new role — a search which drew many talented leaders from around the country — I am pleased to announce the hiring of Mohammad Islam! I cannot be more happy that Mohammad Islam, who was our top choice, accepted the offer to take on this role.

Mr. Islam is transitioning from a 30+ year professional career in the IT industry to pursue his passion of building a vibrant American Muslim community in North America. In his previous role, he was the IT Director at CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate and investment firm. His professional career also included roles at many tech companies including Microsoft.

Before joining MAPS as an Executive Director, Mr. Islam was the Vice President of the Muslim Community Association (MCA) in Santa Clara, CA. MCA is one of the largest and most vibrant Islamic centers in our country, with a facility holding up to 10,000 people. At MCA, Mr. Islam created a professional staffing team to run and manage the large facility and its many programs. Mr. Islam is no stranger to the MAPS community either. He came to Microsoft in 2008 to test his fortune in our Emerald City. It was then that he joined the Board of Directors at MAPS, in our early years when we had just embarked on building our new facility. We are glad that he is back now, bringing with him his increased knowledge, experience, and vision, as we further expand and grow MAPS and our community.

Mr. Islam’s passion for community service started when he was a student at San Jose State University, where he mobilized Muslim students to create the first Muslim Student Association on campus. Since then, Mr. Islam has been involved in helping Muslim communities evolve and thrive in a variety of ways, including serving in non-profit organizations.

Mohammad Islam has already relocated from San Jose and started his new role as the MAPS Executive Director. On behalf of myself and the Board of Directors, I would like to welcome Mohammad Islam, his wife Mounia Kamar, and their two young children to our community, our state, and MAPS! We will hold a “Meet and Greet” with Mr. Islam near the Ummah Café after Jumma prayers at MAPS Redmond on the afternoon of Friday, October 7, 2022. Please join us to meet and introduce yourself to our new MAPS Executive Director!
