WA Governor announces July 2022 as Muslim-American Heritage Month

As’salaam Alaikum (peace be upon you):

Muslims in Washington State and across the country are excited that Governor Jay Inslee proclaimed July 2022 as “Muslim-American Heritage Month”! This proclamation recognizes the contributions of the American Muslim community in WA State. We are grateful to the Governor, and to CAIR-WA for leading the effort on this.  Gov. Inslee has been a supporter of American Muslims and other minority communities. Please take the time to thank the Governor for this proclamation through Twitter, Facebook, or his website contact form.

We also appreciate and celebrate the recent resolutions passed by counties and cities, including the following:

    • Resolution passed on April 11, 2022, by the City of Mukilteo recognizing religious freedom and the right to choose to wear hijab (thanks to CM Riaz Khan for driving this, and MAPS-AMEN for drafting the resolution)
    • Resolution passed on May 25, 2022, by Snohomish County recognizing religious freedom and the right to wear hijab (thanks to CM Riaz Khan for driving this)
    • Proclamation by City of Seattle declaring April 28, 2022, to be an American Muslim Holidays Recognition Day, in honor of Ramadan and Eid (thanks to Commissioneer Hamdi Mohamed for driving this)
    • Proclamation by City of Bothell declaring April 2 to May 2, 2022 as the month to celebrate Ramadan and welcome the Muslim community (thanks to Deputy Mayor Rami Al-Kabra for driving this)

Honoring religious freedom and the diversity in our communities makes us all stronger, and we thank our elected officials who recognized this by passing these resolutions/proclamations!

Peace be with you,
Hyder Ali
